Session Description

Investigator Lang will review the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, including proper payment of overtime, classification of salary exempt versus non-exempt employees, proper timekeeping, and compliance with child labor provisions. She will also address the Family and Medical Leave Act, including required eligibility and designation notices, calculation of intermittent leave, and return to work requirements.

Learning Objectives

  1. Provide an overview of the minimum wage, overtime and child labor provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
  2. Discuss various common areas of non-compliance and provide resources for employers to assure compliance.
  3. Provide an overview of the Family and Medical Leave Act.

Susan Lang is a life-long Kansan and graduate of Wichita State University. She has been with the US Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division, for 33 years and in addition to conducting investigations, she gives presentations on the Fair Labor Standards Act and Family and Medical Leave Act throughout the State.
